More about OrchPlay and OrchSim…

Scores and Information

Each file from the OrchPlay Music Library includes a new, print-ready orchestral pdf study score along with composer picture and short movement description. Teachers have access to a growing selection of different versions with full or selective reductions and piano versions. The page layout enables to write directly onto the score.

Intelligent Playback Navigation

Each multichannel OrchPlay file can be navigated either by measure numbers or time-based units. OrchPlay understands when sections of a score are repeated and adjust the measure numbers accordingly. Our advanced locator-selection-system "snaps" precisely to measure numbers. Fast forward and rewind functions run smoothly and precisely.

Orchestra Window

You are in control of the orchestra! Choose an instrument or build any instrumental combinations you want to hear! Control the balance of complete instrumental families, sections, divisi or any individual instrument or soloist. You have full command with the Orchestra Window in either the detailed 'Mixer View' or intuitive 'Stage View'.

Create and Share Bookmarks

Create any instrumental setting related to sections of the score and save it as a bookmark with individual name and description. Not only can you save an unlimited number of bookmarks per piece, you can also organize them into bookmark lists ready to be used for classroom teaching, lectures or presentations. Share them with the OrchPlay Music Library users community!

Import Stereo Audio Files

Import any stereo audio file into OrchPlay in a snap. The newly created .OPL files can then be bookmarked and be part of bookmark lists. Attach an unlimited number of documents (text, pdf, jpg, etc.) and secondary audio files to both your .OPL stereo and OrchPlay multichannel files. With a simple click you will have access to all your indexed documents for your classes, lectures, presentations or just for the pleasure of sharing!

An Orchestra At Your Fingertips!

Orchestra Window And The Orchplay Engine

Orchestra Window

The Orchestral Window provides control over the instruments of the orchestra when playing OrchPlay Music Library multichannel files.

Mixer View

The default view is the Mixer View. The Mixer View features a list of all the instruments involved in a particular piece. Each family, section or individual instrument is monitored with an audio meter and can be soloed or muted and have its individual volume adjusted. All settings can be saved with our bookmarking system.

Stage View

The Stage View is a bird's eye visual representation of the orchestra. Each instrumental family and member of the orchestra are easily identifiable graphically. A simple click of the mouse on an instrument enables or disables its playback and shift-clicking will solo a whole family. This view might appeal especially to young users.

Orchplay Engine

The OrchPlay engine supports the playback of an unlimited number of stereo audio channels in 24-bit lossless proprietary OPL format. The OrchPlay engine and interface currently supports the simultaneous playback of 152 instruments, 4 reduction tracks as well as an ambience track. It is extremely efficient: even the largest orchestral OrchPlay files are loaded instantaneously in less than a second.

MUSIC LIBRARY DOWNLOAD WINDOW

The Download Window informs you when new OrchPlay files are available and provides an overview of those already in your library. Once downloaded the multichannel files are installed automatically. You can sort pieces by composer, piece title, instrumentation of excerpt, period, year, musical form, file size, duration, audio channels and score information.

The OrchPlay software

Playback Bar(1)

The playback bar occupies the center of the interface. A round cursor indicates precisely the position of the playback head. To the upper left are the information on the position in time units (00m 00s 00ms) followed by the measure number.

Selection/Locator Bar(2)

The selection/locator bar is directly under the playback bar; it is activated or deactivated with a double-click. An excerpt can be selected either by positioning its extremities or by using the measure number selector under the Bookmark Menu which will insure a precise position at the beginning of the measure.

Volume and Speed Control

The rotating knobs on the bottom left control the global volume (-100/+40 dB) and the the playback speed (-33%/+33%).

Transport Controls

The transport controls are located at the bottom center. In the middle is the start/pause function and at the sides are the fast forward and rewind to the next bar. Around the play/pause button are the fast playback forward or backward functions (2x, 4x, 8x, increasing with the number of clicks).

Score and Orchestra Window

On the bottom right side are the buttons to open the score or the Orchestra window (see above).

Information Drawer(3)

After having selected a piece the Information drawer can be opened by clicking on the small triangle at the bottom left. Its length can be adjusted by selecting the bottom right corner.

The drawer is divided into three columns:

  1. General Information [left]: Picture of the composer and short note on the selected piece. For the User library, one can select a picture and write, copy and paste directly the desired information (e. g. program notes, biographies, comments, etc). Why not add your own picture or album cover if you are the composer?
  2. Embedded Documents [center]: Here are the documents linked to the piece. The OrchPlay Music Library always provides a study score in pdf (in several versions for the ORCHPLAY PRO TEACHER) but one can also drag-and-drop any document to be embedded and linked (secondary stereo audio file, text, pdf, jpg or other) that will be copied and saved in the user's OrchPlay database. A simple double-click will then open those documents with their associated software.
  3. Bookmark Description [right]: Space reserved for bookmarks details.

Selection Menu(4)

On the upper left are the controls to select the piece. The menu is divided in 2 superimposed sections:

  1. The User Library comprising the stereo files imported in .OPL format and sorted into user-defined folders. The "Import Stereo Audio File" function is at the top. A selection window will open and ask the user to select the specific file and then sort it in either a new or existing folder.
  2. The OrchPlay Music Library holding all multichannel files downloaded by the user from the Download window sorted by composer name.

Bookmarks Menu(5)

On the upper right is the Bookmarks menu. Each excerpt selected with the Selection/locator bar can become a bookmark to be saved and always linked to a piece of either the User Library or the OrchPlay Library.

The instrumental combinations and volume settings made in the Orchestra window will be saved at the same time. While creating a new bookmark one can give it a specific name and provide a description in the right section of the Information drawer.

The scrolling menu offers the following options:

Piece Bookmarks

  • Choose an existing bookmark (at the top) or delete it by clicking on the small circled x to its right
  • Create Bookmark
  • Overwrite Current Bookmark
  • Save Current Bookmark to Bookmark List

Bookmark Lists

  • Create New Bookmark List
  • Load Bookmark List
  • Import Bookmark List...
  • Export Current Bookmark List as… (to be shared with other users)
  • Save Current Bookmark List as...
  • Delete Current Bookmark List

Selecting a Bookmark from of a Bookmarks List will automatically load the piece it refers to, this enabling a very fast and precise navigation. If many Bookmarks are loaded, one can cycle through them by clicking one of the two triangles flanking the Bookmarks Menu or using the arrow keys on the keyboard.

Consult the User Manual for the list of keyboard shortcuts.
